2010 Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course to be held
May 3 – 7 in Nashville.
Join us for the 4th Annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC) to be held May 3-7, 2010, at the AT&T Economic Development Center in downtown Nashville. This comprehensive course, accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), focuses on the fundamental concepts, tools and practices needed to be successful in today’s complex economic environment.

The TBEDC is designed for community leaders and stakeholders who participate in the process of community economic development at local, regional, state and federal levels. Typical conference attendees include chamber of commerce and economic and community development organization professionals, elected officials, government agency staff, planners, utility personnel, business leaders, real estate brokers and developers, and community volunteers.

The TBEDC 2010 course will be held at the AT&T Economic Development Center, 333 Commerce Street, in downtown Nashville. The program will begin in the afternoon on Monday, May 3rd, and will conclude before noon with a graduation ceremony on Friday, May 7th. On-site check-in will take place from 11:30 to 1:00 on Monday, May 3rd.

The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, selected meals and refreshment breaks. It does not cover hotel and other travel expenses.
Registration is limited to 45 participants and is filled on a first come-first served basis. Registration and payment must be received no later than April 26th.

A limited number of scholarships are available to TBEDC participants from Tennessee. Applications for scholarships can be downloaded here.
Scholarship covers TBEDC tuition, and does not include hotel, travel, or meals. Applications must be received by March 19, 2010, to be considered for a scholarship.
A block of rooms has been reserved for TBEDC participants at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Nashville at a special course rate of $117 nightly plus tax single/ $124 plus tax double occupancy. Course participants should make their own room reservations by April 10th, 2010, to receive the discounted rate. Reservations can be made by contacting the Courtyard by Marriott at

2010 TBEDC Schedule at a Glance
The Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and counts toward the CEcD certification for professional economic developers. Upon satisfactory completion of the BEDC, participants will receive a course certificate and will qualify for admission to other IEDC courses for advanced training.
CEU credits are available through the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service.
To obtain a certificate of completion for the course, participants are required to attend all sessions. The sessions will be held Monday afternoon through Friday morning. No excuses, other than health, business or family emergencies will be accepted.
Cancellations must be received by the TBEDC Course Administrator (the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service) within two weeks, or on or before April 19th, 2010, in order to receive a tuition refund, less a $100 administration fee. Cancellations made after April 19th will not be eligible for a tuition refund.
The attire for the TBEDC is business casual.
