Business Assistance

The Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Program (TMEP) helps Tennessee’s manufacturers become more productive, more profitable and more competitive. TMEP assists companies with new production techniques or business practices, expanding markets, complying with regulations and a host of other issues.

The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) assists companies in understanding the rules, processes and opportunities of doing business with government organizations.

The University of Tennessee EDA University Center (UTUC) helps companies in targeted areas of the state to improve their business competitiveness and retain and grow jobs and investment.

The Center for Industrial Services provides comprehensive assistance in Environmental and Safety Regulatory Compliance, waste reduction and training.

Industry Training Programs cover a wide range of topics, from Quality Management, Manufacturing Management, ISO and QS registration, and Government Contracting to a full array of courses on industrial Environmental, Health and Safety management.

Research and Technology Commercialization

The Manufacturing Research and Development Institute (MRDI) brings together faculty, students, and several advanced research centers to help manufacturers tackle a variety of complex engineering problems.

The Tennessee SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer) Proposal Assistance Center helps Tennessee entrepreneurs and small businesses understand the SBIR/STTR proposal criteria and process, prepare and review proposals, identify partnership opportunities and commercialize technologies.

Community Assistance

The Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) provides comprehensive technical assistance to cities and towns across the state on all municipal matters, and serves as a reference center for publications, resources, legal documents and opinions and other information related to municipal government.

The County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS) provides comprehensive assistance to county governments and their associations, provides training, conducts research and serves as a source of information for all matters of county government.

The Law Enforcement Innovation Center provides innovative and technologically based training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies and communities.

Leadership Development

The Elected Officials Academy (EOA) provides training for municipal elected officials in all aspects of municipal government administration.

The County Officials Certificate Training Program (COCTP) enhances the knowledge and efficiency of county government officials through specialized office-specific, technical, administrative and managerial training.

The Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP) affords city and county officials the chance to gain a fresh perspective, learn a subject in more depth, and analyze issues for innovative solutions that fit their particular communities.

The Tennessee Government Executive Institute (TGEI) provides a three-week executive development opportunity for state government’s top managers, focusing on current issues and challenges facing state executives.

The Tennessee Government Management Institute (TGMI) is a two-week management development program for mid-level state government managers, focusing on ways to lead and manage their organizations and employees more effectively.
