The Institute for Public Service serves as a catalyst, facilitator and collaborator to connect businesses, local governments, economic development organizations and community leaders with University assets.
The economic development focus of IPS is to:
- Enhance the Economic Competitiveness of Business and Industry.
Utilize the resources at The University of Tennessee to enhance the abilities of Tennessee business and industry and workers to compete in the global economy.
- Promote the Development of Private Sector Jobs and Investment through Research, Technology Transfer and Commercialization.
Apply research and technology at The University of Tennessee to the creation and retention of quality jobs and increased capital investment in Tennessee.
- Build Leadership and Organizational Capacity to Enhance the Economic Well Being of all Tennessee Communities.
Provide expertise and assistance to help Tennessee communities realize and sustain their full economic development potential and improve the quality of life for Tennesseans.
